July 21, 2021 The Olympics
The Olympics - the only sound of this word makes me sad. I was planning to create an animation project related to Olympics for my Anime class - but I never quite put my hands on it, though I took part in a group project - about the Olympics, of course. Olympics remind me how bad I am with my time management and how good I am at procrastination.
Honestly, at first, I was mad about this year Olympics: the announcement that they will be holding it nevertheless has popped up all of a sudden and I was so ensured that the event will be pushed further once more that I stared at my laptop screen for about an hour trying to digest the same article, rereading it over and over: I just couldn't wrap it inside of my mind - how is it possible, in today's pandemic reality?..
It is always important to remember that a coin has two sides, and after giving it a good thought, I concluded that Japan had no choice but to open the Olympics despite everything. In my humble opinion, it all has to do with economics: Olympics had poured so many investments that it's impossible to not return the interest back and the sooner the better. I'm convinced that none of the buildings and setup was founded simply by budget money: that would be unwise and risky, even ridiculous. The huge stadium, the new train station, broadcasting 8k - none of that is free and everything screams investing income. However, when the expectations are not met and investors start losing their money instead of gaining profit - that's where the problems start: first investors don't get their interest, then they stop supporting the project, then they step down from supporting the economy, then the country lacks external investments and then we witness the fall of national currency on the global stock market which is never good for the country's financial stability. Therefore, I find the Olympics held this year more than justified - Japan defends its national wellbeing.
With all that said I stand by my words with a pure heart and sure of being right in my conclusions. If you may prove me wrong, please go ahead and defeat me in the debate.
I'm sorry to hear about that, I would like to see your animation!
ReplyDeleteEvery Olympics loses money, you can read it about in news and reports. Even with a full stadium, Japan was going to lose money on this.
There was only one time I can remember where the Olympics made money and that was when it was in America and many countries boycotted because of the Cold War. So, American won almost everything in their home country and everyone watched it on tv and bought t-shirts and stuff because we were so strong.
Yes, it really is a very curious case with Olympics being financially unjustified: I was always curious as to wh everyone wants to host the event knowing it's gonna be a big hole in the budget, but I guess it's more about political image than sports in this case. Even though Olypics will bring nothing to the table, the country's position on international political arena will be uplifted due to money showcase.
Delete*applause* I also agree with you. The Olympics is not something you can postpone for another 4 years. It has been a tradition over hundreds of year only stopping in the face of war. A pandemic is bound to happen at some point, Japan was just unlucky that the pandemic happened when they're the hosting nation. 4 years of investment can not go down the drain like that. Not only does it affect the nation's economics, the Olympics is also the world's symbol of hope. Right now, the public might be against it but decades later, how will it be viewed? Despite everything nation crumbling under the pandemic anxiety, we chose a moment to show the world something else that not deadly and out to kill us. My mother stopped reading the news because there is nothing else written on it that is not death, tragedy or covid. Hopefully with the Olympics going on, people might have hope again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your supposting opinion, I'm glad someone shares my point of view.
DeleteI noticed that your English is very high level, are you bilingial by any chance?
Yes, I am. I basically grew up in 2 languages. since I've been speaking English since I was 6y/o. btw, I don't usually write like that. I just get carried away sometimes when point are being made and end up writing a whole passage. Are you bilingual too?
DeleteI have the problem of being carried away quite often too - I love writing, it brings so much relief from emotional baggage.
DeleteNo, I am not bilingual, unfortunately. I started learning English very late, only in high school - from 9th grade. Though back then English was taught from 5th grade I never took it seriously and often skipped the classes. But then I started boarding school and had to take it seriously.
I know right! Oh, You could've fooled me. Your English is really great! There are typos here and there sometimes but that just normal. Your choice of words and phrasing are amazing! Keep it up!
