August 4th, 2020 The Final Class

When I first signed up for this class, I was expecting to learn about social media analytics, current trends and business opportunities within the industry. Though this class turned out to be not what I expected, I couldn't say I am upset with it at all.  I had a lot of fun during the classes and a great opportunity to socialize which has lately remained a big problem for me. Due to being back in my home country and in the middle of a pandemic, I left with no real-life communication during these years and was struggling to find a company. A sudden urge to talk to someone started ruining a day after day and I was spiralling into despair, unable to move or eat for weeks. It has been a crippling experience of loneliness. I enjoy writing a lot. However, whenever I do, I almost expect too much from myself and chain my pen with limits and standards to follow. I expect perfection that is hard to achieve and let the steam off, but you can't really let it off while picking on yourself...

August 2, 2021 - Final project

Image
Hello! Today I would like to tell you about one of my favourite holidays which approaches soon - September 1st also known as Knowledge Day in Russia! Originally, I was going to tell you about New Year traditions but eventually changed my mind because I wanted to recycle the script later on my YouTube channel and make it a full informative video regarding the topic. September first takes an honourable shrine of memories in my heart as a memorable occasion of joy. I and my classmates used to have a lot of fun preparing for this day: we would go to book shops together to buy new student books - alone or with our parents to help us and then on the day of the event we would gather at someone's house and dressing up and brushing each other hair. We would rush in hurry to pick fresh flowers from a local flower shop before the ceremony starts - all of these are happy memories for me, so please join and share them with me by learning about this special occasion we call Knowledge Day! Pleas...

July 21, 2021 The Olympics

The Olympics - the only sound of this word makes me sad. I was planning to create an animation project related to Olympics for my Anime class - but I never quite put my hands on it, though I took part in a group project - about the Olympics, of course. Olympics remind me how bad I am with my time management and how good I am at procrastination. Honestly, at first, I was mad about this year Olympics: the announcement that they will be holding it nevertheless has popped up all of a sudden and I was so ensured that the event will be pushed further once more that I stared at my laptop screen for about an hour trying to digest the same article, rereading it over and over: I just couldn't wrap it inside of my mind - how is it possible, in today's pandemic reality?.. It is always important to remember that a coin has two sides, and after giving it a good thought, I concluded that Japan had no choice but to open the Olympics despite everything. In my humble opinion, it all has to do w...

July 19, 2021 - Weird Apartment Names

Today we're talking about weird apartment/building names in Japan and the usage of fake English in general. When I think about that, I remember noticing a lot of strange English in Japan, but weirdly enough, I can't recall what was weird about it - no names, all is wiped out of my memory. Though the video we watched seem funny at first, I can't help but sense a hint of mockery in it. Yes, it would make sense to check the meaning of the word before registering it as a building name, but I guess in some way the weird word usage is justified.  I'm convinced this has a connection with the property registry system. As I see it (though I'm not sure and too lazy to do research), registering a building complex has to be somewhat similar to registering a company name, product name or patent - like if you were to register your artist name in ISNI ( The International Standard Name Identifier) . This means that one name can be only registered in the system once unless dismissed...

When I was a kid, I was a hardcore gamer. It all started with my very own Sega console under the New Year tree (in Russia, we receive the gift on New Year, not Christmas) and a set of three cartridges: with Alladin, Chip and Dayle and MORTAL COMBAT. Needless to say, after dealing with the first two, Mortal Combat quickly jumped up on the first favourite position in my top-3. At the time, I was in second grade and my dad away due to his health condition: he got into a car accident when I was five and the treatment required him to be in the Western part of Russia, though our family leaves in the Eastern part of Siberia. When I went to first grade, he and my mom left for Saint-Petersburg to get him a spinal surgery and left me with my aunties for what felt about a whole school year. I missed them dearly, but when they returned, it wasn't for long: my dad still had to leave and continue the treatment and because now he was in a wheelchair, he couldn't get a job, so both due to une...

July 12, 2021 My favourite comic

Image
Comics are a part of pop culture that seems to be a huge piece of childhood for many people. But what are exactly the comics? Thankfully to taking American Comics class, I know the right definition! Comics are defined as a juxtaposed sequential art - ain't I sound all smart using words like this?.. I know I do -  thanks to reading an English textbook about comics. I already have pages of notes with new words I learned from it, but today's talk is not about that: today we're talking the real deal - favourite comics. When I was a child, American comics slowly started making their way on the Russian market and my mom would buy me thin Donald Duck magazines, Though I liked them at first, I grew up fast and soon found them unsatisfactory. When I was six, I went to school and Donald Duck suddenly had become "too childish" for me: not only due to the simple plot but also because of how shoeth the comics were: mom bought me comics in the nearest post office shop and I ma...

July 7, 2021 Tanabata

I heard the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi many times in different interpretations and always thought it was very romantic - until now. I think it's kinda abusive of a father to control his all-grown-up daughters love life, but of course, that's a modern take on the story that originated hundred years ago. I mean, why would you need all this weaving for - you're already on heavens, congratulate yourself and enjoy this like a hobby... Just kidding - I guess for the whole world to operate smoothly everyone has to do their job and keep up with the deadlines - and it's weird to learn about the importance of time management from such an old story. The moral - do not mix work and relationships - is taken. Personally, I've never had a problem with keeping two separate, but I must admit that I quite often tend to abandon some responsibilities to enjoy myself - and I'm not proud of it. I've lived in Japan for three years before quarantine, and every year I skipped T...
